Staging Your Toronto Home

Artwork is often an overlooked part of staging a home, but it is a crucial component of the entire project. Done right, adding artwork to a space can positively impact the look and feel of the interior. Here are some tips to using artwork in a way that can improve the look of your home when staging it to sell.

Choose the Right Kind of Artwork

You shouldn’t just arbitrarily pick any piece of artwork to hang on your walls. Instead, your choices should be made carefully. The idea is to complement the style of the room you are decorating. More specifically, you will want to take the wall and floor coverings, lighting, colours, materials, and finishes of the area when selecting the artwork you want to hang.

If you’re a bit uneasy about which art pieces to pick, start with pieces that are neutral in colour and objects. That means steering clear of anything too over-the-top in terms of colours, patterns, shapes, and objects.

Choose the Right Location

Much like picking the artwork itself, choosing the location to hang your artwork shouldn’t be done mindlessly, either. The exact spot that you place your artwork matters. The general rule of thumb is that artwork should be hung at eye-level for the average-height person. If you’re hanging your art over top of something, such as a sofa or console, be sure that there are at least 8 inches between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the artwork, on average.

Choose the Right Size

For the most part, artwork that hangs over top of furniture shouldn’t be any more than half the size of the piece that you’re hanging it over.

Add Just the Right Amount of Artwork

Don’t skimp on your artwork, but don’t bombard your walls with art, either. Instead, choose just enough pieces that decorate your space without making it seem cluttered. When in doubt, keep things to a minimum with a couple of pieces at the most to avoid the risk of overcrowding your walls.

Of course, this is just a generality. Depending on the size of the pieces, you may want to add more. Your best bet is to work with a seasoned home staging company in Toronto to help you find that “sweet spot.”
