5 Tips For Decorating Your Outdoor Space

June 27, 2020

With the summer in full swing, you’ll want to use your outdoor space as much as possible to enjoy the warmer temperatures and glorious sunshine. But instead of just plopping a couple of lawn chairs out back, there are plenty if things to do create a home-y space that you’ll want to hang out in all day and perhaps entertain a guest or two – while physically distancing, of course.

Here are a few ways to spruce up your outdoor space.

Wall Decor

You don’t have to leave your walls empty. Instead, add some decor to spruce up the area. Whether it’s wall art, an oversized clock, or even shelving or hooks where you can add hanging baskets, using your wall space can add great visual appeal to the outdoors.

Hanging Lanterns

If you’ve got a large umbrella or cabana over top of your outdoor dining or conversation furniture, consider handing lanterns from above to provide you with some light and ambiance while also adding visual appeal to the area. They’ll look amazing no matter what time of the day or night.

Greenery on Your Trellis

If you have a trellis or pergola in your yard, consider adorning it with vines and greenery to add more visual appeal to the structure while providing you with more shelter and privacy. Ivy tends to be the perfect type of greenery to choose for this purpose, as it grows quickly and can eventually become a live, green wall and roof of your trellis with minimal effort on your part.

Outdoor Rug

Tie in all your outdoor furniture with an outdoor area rug. These pieces are not just restricted to indoor spaces, but can also be used to make your outdoor spaces pop. Consider going for rugs that have at least a colour or two that are pulled from the rest of your decor or furniture, and don’t pick a rug that will just blend in with the floor beneath. Also, a rug that is large enough to be slightly tucked under your furniture but not too large that your furnishing will get lost on it is ideal.

Planters

If you don’t have enough space to plant trees, bushes, or flowers directly into the ground, planters are your best friend. Grab yourself a bunch of planters in various sizes, shapes, and materials and plant your favourite florals and greenery to add a creative and artful touch to your backyard oasis.
