In our last blog post, we discussed what to look for in a home stager. Now that you have that information at your disposal, we wanted to take things one step further by providing a list of questions that you should answer when hiring a home staging company.
Before we get into the finer details, remember this: no two home staging companies are the same. This may appear to be the case on the surface, but nothing could be further from the truth. By asking the right questions, you can quickly determine which professional offers what you are looking for.
Does the home stager possess a passion for creativity?
If you are going to hire somebody to help you with this task, you want somebody on your side who is creative enough to help set your home apart from others on the market.
Can you provide me with samples of your work?
No matter what, you need to request past work samples to ensure that you and the staging professional are on the same page. The top stagers have a complete portfolio that they are willing to share.
Do you have insurance?
This may not sound like a big deal, but it is something you never want to overlook. What would happen if somebody were to be injured on your property? What would happen if a piece they added to your home injured you or somebody else?
Does the home stager understand the real estate market?
You are staging your home for a reason: to speed up the sale of the property while also ensuring that you get as much money as possible. For this reason, you need to hire a professional who understands the local real estate market as well as your target buyer.
Do they have project management experience?
It goes without saying that you want a stager who can take control of the project early on, allowing you to step to the side and not worry about a thing. It is a must that this person is able to manage every last detail.
Can they handle the project from beginning to end, including hiring the proper help?
To stage your home effectively, other professionals, such as a contractor, may need brought into the equation. This is why you want to hire a person with project management experience. If they are unable to do this, you will have to step in and spend your own time. Is that something you really want to do?
Do they warehouse their own furniture, décor, artwork, etc.?
While not required, it is a huge benefit to choose a home staging company that warehouses their own furniture and other pieces. Not only will this save you money, but it ensures that the person you hire has access to whatever is best for your home.
