Springtime means more sun, better weather, and more people looking at new homes. It is also an important time to make sure that your home’s exterior views are up-to-date, attractive, and inviting to potential home buyers. Home staging in Caledon means many things, but one of them is certainly making sure that the outside of the home looks welcoming.
Below are just a few ideas for sprucing up your exterior home and making it the most inviting for any possible buyers.
1. Hone in on the positives and failings of your yard and external home. What does this mean? Take a fresh look at your home and note which parts you really like. Everything that doesn’t make it on this list falls in the category of potential improvements. Do you like your front door? Great! But that may mean that you’re not that big of a fan of the deck or stairs that lead up to it. Be honest and make a candid list of the positives and negatives of the current home.
2. Take advantage of what you already have. Try going through your attic, basement, or even call family members in order to find unique ways that you can immediately add flair to your home. Perhaps your sister has a fantastic bench that she can let you borrow for a few weeks. Maybe you have some pots in the garage that just need a little dusting off and you can added some colorful potted plants to a space. These can all give you ideas as well as make things a little more cost effective when sprucing up the external visuals of your home.
3. Get rid of clutter, but then add good clutter. This may be difficult for many homeowners. You really should get rid of anything that prevents people from having a favorable first impression. There may be sentimental or personal things that you love but, when you get other’s opinions, you may find that they aren’t favorable to many others. You may have some yard art that you find inviting, but after some thought, may be too odd or unusual for potential buyers. There may be some fixtures to your yard that would be great for those who have families, but you may not want to cater exclusively to families. Assess the things that are in your yard and get rid of obstacles that may take away from this first impression.
On the other hand, there are things you can ADD that will provide attractive ways for your house to stand out. These could be new shrubs, plants, or accent yard furniture. Be strategic and add items that will enhance the positives of your exterior home.
4. Don’t forget to accessorize. Think of small garnishes that can be the “jewelry” of the front of your home. These final touches can make a world of difference, since they can tie it all together and instill images in people’s minds in very subtle ways. This could be additions to the front porch or outdoor furniture. It could be a colorful wreath that you put on the front door. Don’t miss an opportunity to “wow” people right away.
